August 5, 2011 - Wildcat Deli in Suches, Georgia
Wildcat Deli, Country Store, and Campground in Suches, Georgia, is a great place to visit. The facility is located at 7475 Highway 60 and is open seven days a week. Owner Donald Oakes says, “We have hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken, and more at the deli. Folks can get take out or stay and eat on the porch. The Wildcat Country Store sells everything from boiled peanuts to fishing and camping supplies. We invite everyone to come for a visit. It is worth the drive even if you don’t live in Suches!”
The store features groceries, hunting supplies, fresh produce (in season), snacks, ice cold drinks, and more. Wildcat Lodge (formerly the old Gilreath house) is currently being renovated. It will house the office for campers to register for their stay. RVs and tents will be welcome. A large pavilion and well equipped bath house is also under construction on the property. The Lodge and Campground is expected to be open by Labor Day weekend.
The Wildcat Deli and Country Store is located in the 100 year old building that once belonged to W.C. Gurley (the original owner), then Ms. Eva Fraizer. Mr. Oakes has kept everything as close to the original as possible (except for a modern kitchen). With wide plank floors and other country furnishings, customers feel like they are stepping back in time.
Future plans include a flea market and other fun activities. Wildcat Deli & Country Store hours are Monday thorough Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
