Craftsman R.O. Wilson - man of many talents
Mr. R.O. Wilson is a man of many talents. Wilson, a resident of Cullowhee, North Carolina, is currently in Blairsville, Georgia working on shingles for the Union County Historical Society Payne Cabin.
The Payne Cabin's leaky roof will be completely restored to its original state with these new oak shingles. This major repair will hopefully protect the building and its contents for future generations to enjoy.
Wilson has cut timber and logged for over 45 years. He has trucked lumber for the past seven years and makes shingles for the Payne Cabin on a part-time basis. He says, "I like to do this type of work. It's fun and I get paid, too."
The Union County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving our local history and the mountain way of life. For more information call the Union County Historical Society at (706) 745-5493 or visit the Mock Butt House in Blairsville, Georgia where the Payne Cabin is located. If you are lucky, R.O will be out back, quietly working at his craft.
