September 18, 2008 - Real Cuts Barber Shop opens in Blairsville, Georgia
Real Cuts Barber Shop recently opened for business at 271 Murphy Highway in Blairsville, Georgia. Owner Tim Searcy has over 15 years of experience as a licensed barber and says, "My dad, my grandfather, and my uncles were professional barbers. I worked in the barbershop when I was a kid shining shoes, sweeping, or whatever they needed me to do. It's a family tradition."
Tim served in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1985. He says, "When the guys found out I could cut hair, I ended up doing more haircuts than working on airplanes." Veterans from Union County will feel right at home at Real Cuts. Tim adds, "I do hair cuts, full grooming, and beard trims. This is a man's place but women are welcome if they want a short cut or trim. Girls with really long hair say I do a good job getting their hair even."
Tim has become pretty familiar with Blairsville, Georgia over the years and decided to open his shop here. He says, "Blairsville is a great place and I know lots of good people that live here." Tim is a member of Masonic Lodge 243 in McCaysville and is a member of Cherry Log Baptist Church. When not doing haircuts, he is quite the outdoorsman and enjoys photography and fly-fishing.
Tim grew up in Blue Ridge and lives near the Union County line in Fannin County. His son, Caleb, is interested in computers and the drama club. His daughter, Cara, is interested in becoming a hair stylist. Tim says, "Maybe Cara will keep the tradition going." Both Caleb and Cara attend Fannin County High School.
Real Cuts is located on Highway 129 North, one mile out of town across from Don's Used Cars (where the Biscuit House used to be) in Blairsville, Georgia. Business hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Prices are competitive with other shops in Union County.
