October 7, 2007 - Payne family reunion held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Blairsville, Georgia

The Payne family and friends recently gathered at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Union County for their annual family reunion. Over 50 people attended the event. Most were from Union County but many came from out of town.

Jim Payne led the business meeting and told various stories about the history of the Payne family. He said, "The grandmothers are important, too. Without them we wouldn't be here." Jim went on to tell about a trip to Virginia where he discovered interesting information about his ancestors. During the Revolutionary War, one of his distant relatives had to hide her two young boys from invading soldiers. She put one under a wash tub and one under a pile of Irish potatoes. Jim learned that he comes from the potato pile side of the family.

After the business meeting everyone enjoyed fellowship, good food, and the beautiful fall weather. If you are interested in learning more about the Payne family history, a Payne family book is on file in the Union County Historical Society's archives in Blairsville, Georgia.
