S.A.F.E. Gala Dance and Charity Auction

February 8, 2006 - Gala Dance and Charity Auction

S.A.F.E. (Support in Abusive Family Emergencies, Inc.) recently held their much anticipated, "Sixth Annual Gala Dance and Charity Auction" at the beautiful Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris, Georgia. The theme for the night was "Celebrating Harmony in the Home."

At 5:00 P.M. the festivities began with a reception and silent auction. Many nice things were on display and most people at the "Gala" participated in the bidding.

Dinner was served next and the evening continued with moments of recognition, a live auction, and dancing into the night.

A single "Memorial Place Setting", in honor of everyone that died as a result of domestic violence, was a reminder of the purpose of the evening. The lone candle on that small table burned the brightest.

Kathie Hollis, Director of S.A.F.E. was present to greet the guests with her beautiful smile. She said, "It's a great turn out. We really want to thank all of our sponsors, Appalachian Community Bank, Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, the Bank of Hiawassee, Bank of Blairsville, Young Harris College Family, and Brasstown Valley Resort."

Commissioner Lamar Paris and wife Dinah were seen looking over the auction merchandise. They had their eye on a beautiful painting. Lots of great items were donated including pottery, dolls, jewelry, collectable items, antiques, furniture, and a quilt.

Many people turned out to show their support for S.A.F.E. and the ongoing battle against domestic violence. Wearing evening gowns, cocktail dresses, velvet and satin, the night was surely an elegant affair. Helping others, and having fun at the same time was a fine way to spend this special Saturday night.

The recent 7th Annual S.A.F.E. Gala "Passion to Action!" is a night for dressing up. The dance and charity auction is a black-tie optional event that offers a chance for members of the community to enjoy an elegant evening out while supporting a good cause.

Union County was well represented at the fundraising "Gala." Familiar faces with ball gowns and tuxedos made for excellent photo opportunities. With beautiful Brasstown Valley Resort as the backdrop, people enjoyed the auctions, fine dining, and dancing.

"Passion to Action" was the theme for this year's gala. Many people do have a passion for ending domestic violence and showed their support by attending the gala. Director Kathie Hollis says, "We are pleased with the turnout for the evening considering the threatening weather. We hope that everyone will take to heart the message of the evening "Passion to Action" and will reach out to make a difference in someone's life today."

There was never a dull moment. Charles Melne set the mood with lively piano tunes and later the band "Flashback" provided more musical entertainment. Tim Ryan was great as auctioneer. Guest speaker Linda Hettermann reminded everyone of the purpose of the evening.

S.A.F.E. is the state certified domestic violence and sexual assault program serving Towns and Union County.
