Puttin' on the Dog Auction and Wine Tasting

September 27, 2008 - Humane Society Puttin' on the Dog fundraisr

The 8th Annual Puttin' on the Dog Auction and Wine Tasting fundraiser was recently held at Crane Creek Vineyards. The event was a fun and elegant way to raise money for the Humane Society Mountain Shelter. Advanced ticket sales, a silent auction, a live auction, dog bone sales, sponsorships, and other donation opportunities brought in funds that are greatly needed (and appreciated) by the Blairsville, Georgia animal shelter.

Norm Bennett, originator of the event, did a great job organizing the 2008 Puttin' on the Dog. The annual event is one of the best fundraisers in North Georgia . It is an evening of good food, great wine, an interesting auction, and fellowship with neighbors and friends.

A well known and popular tradition, Puttin' on the Dog is held at Crane Creek Vineyards in Young Harris, Georgia. Eric and DeAnne Livingston Seifarth personally welcome guests to their beautiful twelve acre vineyard where several wines including Mountain Harvest and Sweet Sally are produced.

Andy Moschetto of Moschetto's Continental Café catered the event. An elegant variety of hors d' oeuvres, sandwiches, and desserts were not only delicious, but a feast for the eyes. Live music was provided by the Vintage Notes, including Doug Davenport on drums, Douglas Nuelle on bass, and Jack Warner on Keyboard.

The 2008 Puttin' on the Dog was dedicated to a couple of talented local artists who passed away this year. Bill Bates and Jon Whiddon were faithful supporters of the event and are greatly missed.

Thanks to Norm Bennett, Ken Snyder, Betty Foss, Tricia Spear, Lyn Varian, workers, other volunteers, local businesses, and animal lovers that gave time, money, and auction items to make the event into a successful fundraiser. Puttin' on the Dog

Puttin' on the Dog is a tremendous success

The recent 6th Annual Puttin' on the Dog Auction and Wine Tasting held at Crane Creek Vineyards was a tremendous success. Organizer, Norm Bennett said, "The event raised more money than any fundraiser in the twenty-five year history of the Humane Society's Mountain Shelter."

Marguerite Russell, President of the Board, expressed her delight with the huge turn-out and tremendous success of the evening, "Everyone had a wonderful time and congratulated us on the new direction that the Humane Society has taken. We were also pleased to introduce our new Shelter Manager Cindy Balsamo. She is a great addition to the organization."

Over 350 people crowded around Auctioneer Cary Cox and Master of Ceremonies Stephen Smith to bid on over 175 silent and live auction items. Artwork, gift certificates, furniture, jewelry, and gift baskets went like hotcakes. Unique packages including airplane rides, golf rounds, and veterinarian services brought the highest bids.

Betty Foss, Auction Chairperson, expressed her appreciation to the dozens of businesses and individuals who generously donated auction items. She said, "The quality and number of donations has increased each year as people realize the importance of raising money for the Humane Society. People were very willing to give."

Food and Logistics Coordinator, Ken Snyder, organized a sumptuous hors d'oeuvres buffet prepared and donated entirely by volunteers. Guests enjoyed great food and excellent wine accompanied by the music of The Vintage Notes.

Owners of Crane Creek Vineyards, Eric Seifarth and wife Dr. DeAnne Livingston, were instrumental in the success of the event. Crane Creek's fine wines and beautiful venue added a touch of elegance to the fundraiser. Even their big yellow lab Sally enjoyed the perfect weather and festive atmosphere.
