Happy Birthday Annette

December 1, 2010 - Annette Freer recently celebrated her 50th Birthday with a party at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville Fellowship Hall. The party was fun for everyone!

A nice dinner, decorations, a five tier cake topped with a crown, and a pretty woman in a wedding dress made the evening very special. Annette’s wishes came true, all except for the handsome lifeguard. Annette laughs when you mention that part. Who needs a groom when you can be the star!

Annette lives with two loving parents, Barbara and Jim Cone. Annette has lots to do and always lives life to its fullest. She loves to travel and go shopping. Annette has visited 38 of the United States - so far.

During the past fifty years, Annette has had many hobbies from swimming to stage productions like the Nutcracker where she played a Russian dancer. She has always liked ruffles and lace so wearing a white dress became her dream. Well, in 2010 it came true!

Many friends and family members were on hand to congratulate Annette on her birthday. She looked absolutely gorgeous in the gown. With purple and red accents, she was a princess.

Annette is very active in local church life, loves dogs, and is a volunteer at Vogel State Park. Annette’s mother, Barbara Cone says, “Annette likes the simple things in life. Most of the time, it’s the small gestures that make her really happy.”

Annette was born on December 6, 1960 with Downs Syndrome.  Her life expectancy at birth was maybe 6 weeks - most people with Down's do not live long. Annette’s mom helped start an early intervention program called "Babies Can't Wait". Mrs. Cone was also the chairman of the first pilot program of Parent to Parent, an international program of parents helping other parents.  Barbara says, “God chose me, a stubborn young woman, to be her mother. There was no help for parents back then so I decided to get something started.” (For more information about programs in the local area, contact the Volunteers for the Handicapped at PO Box 1455, Blairsville, GA 30514.)

Happy Birthday to Annette! We wish you many more.
