November 27, 2007 - Mountain Learning & Child Care Center celebrates 15 years at current location
Mountain Learning & Child Care Center is currently celebrating fifteen years at 1340 Ledford Road . MLCCC is a great asset to Union County providing professional child care services to parents and their children. Thousands of children have passed through the front doors into a loving and nurturing environment.
MLCCC maintains a strictly enforced child / staff ratio at all times. Children are never left alone. Babies receive constant attention. Structured activities include story time, music, dancing, singing, potty training, table manners, puzzles, coloring, alphabet, number, and name recognition, educational computer games, arts and crafts, and other age related training. There is also free play where children are encouraged to develop social skills.
Mountain Learning & Child Care Center started out in a trailer at Union General Hospital 21 years ago in September of 1986. Six years later, and fifteen years ago, the center moved to its present Blairsville location.
The modern facility offers programs for children ages six weeks to twelve years old. The building has large, attractive and well equipped rooms for each age group. Three playgrounds offer safe outdoor fun. Delicious, nourishing meals are prepared on site in a fully staffed kitchen. A camera security system is installed in each room with a live view and recorded tapes for future reference.
Staff members are carefully screened. Director Margaret Crawford says, "Everyone that works here loves children. They're not here just for the money. No one in the child care business expects to get rich. Our staff members really want to take care of these children or they wouldn't be here."
Programs at MLCCC are developed with certain goals in mind. Social, physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being of each child is the main priority. Parents can rest assured that a safe, nurturing environment is guaranteed.
Mountain Learning & Child Care Center depends on parent fees, the Child Care Food Program, and contributions to cover all operating costs. MLCCC also holds fundraisers such as raffles and "lollypop sales" to supplement income. The Center does not receive any funding from the county, state, or federal government.
St. Clare's Episcopal Church donates to the center's Scholarship Fund but MLCCC is not officially affiliated with St. Clare's. The Scholarship Fund helps families that do not qualify for assistance from DFCS. Low income families that need help with day care expenses can apply for scholarships and they are awarded whenever funds become available.
Mountain Learning and Child Care Center currently has spaces available in all age groups. They are also accepting donations. Due to the current economic situation, there is a great need for operating funds. Crawford explains, "We will need a new roof in the next year or so. We are currently waiting on a new front door. Right now there is just no extra money to spare. If there is anyone out there looking for a cause, this is a good one. Do you have a special place in your heart for children? Come visit us and see what we do." She adds, "I hate to say it, but we are in desperate need of financial support.
Members of the community, individuals, clubs, and businesses should consider the importance of having quality child care in Blairsville, Georgia and Union County . MLCCC is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
