Union County Lions Club at the 2010 Downtown Blairsville, Georgia Spring Arts and Crafts Festival
May 3, 2008 - Union County Lions Club benefits local community
The Union County Lions Club recently sold raffle tickets to raise money to assist Union County residents in receiving vision and hearing services. Union County Commissioner Lamar Paris met with several Lions Club members and was given the opportunity to draw the winning ticket.
Cara Buesking of Morganton, Georgia is the lucky winner of a new mower! She will be mowing her grass with a brand new lawnmower this summer.
The Union County Lions Club holds several major fundraisers each year. President Lisa Little says, "After proper paperwork and verification screening, we pay for glasses and eye exams for those meeting our requirements." People needing eye surgeries and hearing aids are sent to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse located in Decatur, Georgia, where they also receive services free of charge.
Lisa adds, "The Blairsville Lions Club works hard each year to support the Lighthouse because so many of their services actually reach our friends and neighbors right here in Blairsville, Georgia. As for the mower raffle, I would like to thank all of our members who worked countless hours selling tickets. We know that when we all work toward a mutual goal of helping others that it is always a success. The real winners today are the many residents of Union County that will benefit from the efforts. I also want to thank all the people that purchased tickets and made this fundraiser possible."
The Lions are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 202 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Known for working to end preventable blindness, Lions have participated in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters.
The Union County Lions meet regularly at Steve's Cookie Jar in Blairsville, Georgia.
