Blairsville Kiwanis' fry up delicious fundraiser

The Blairsville Kiwanis' 2006 Fish Fry provided people with a delicious meal and raised money for a worthwhile cause. The fish fry was held at the United Community Bank's Brackett Room in Blairsville, Georgia on Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Many guests showed their support for the Kiwanis by attending the event.

Kiwanis members and ambassadors from United Community Bank worked hard to prepare and serve the fish and side dishes. Lots of cooking, lots of eating, and lots of satisfied diners made for a wonderful evening. "It's a lot of work, but we enjoy it," said Bob Garrison as he dropped pieces of fresh fish into the fryer. "It gets bigger and better every year."

The Blairsville Kiwanis have helped school children and supported Union County youth programs for many years. They deserve a great big "thank you" for all that they do. For more information, please attend a Blairsville Kiwanis meeting. The Kiwanis meet every Monday around 12:00 Noon at Cobb's Mill Restaurant.

 Pancakes Served at Kiwanis Breakfast

100's of Pancakes Served at Kiwanis Breakfast in Blairsville, Georgia

The Blairsville Kiwanis Club recently held its Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Union County Middle School Cafeteria in Blairsville, Georgia. People arrived hungry and left full and satisfied. For a $4 donation, guests received a stack of pancakes, country sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. They also received the satisfaction of knowing that they helped a worthy cause. It was all you could eat and take-out was available.

A collection of special photographs was on display. There were scenes from Blairsville, Georgia, back in the days when the square was still a dirt road. There were photos of old buildings that have been gone for many years and little kids that are now all grown-up. Paula Paris was on hand to tell about her collection. She said, "See that little boy on the steps. That Jim Bob Dockery. Do you know him? And there's my brother, Lamar."

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Blairsville work hard all year long to help children and teenagers in Union County. Their motto is, "Help Us Help Our Kids." The Kiwanis work with counselors in grades K-12 to give help where and when it's needed. The Kiwanis sponsor the Key Club and they run a food booth at football games to help the Quarterback Club. Fundraisers include the Annual Pancake Breakfast, Fish Fry, and Golf Tournament. The Kiwanis also sell their world famous hamburgers at various events such as the Tour de Georgia Race, the Blairsville Scottish Festival, and the Arts and Crafts Shows.
