Goodyear blimp

September 28, 2008 - Goodyear Blimp spotted over Jones Creek area of Union County

One of the Goodyear blimps was recently spotted flying over the Jones Creek area of Union County. Sounding like a swarm of giant bees or a fleet of loud helicopters, the famous blimp caused quite a stir on nearby Blairsvillle, Georgia farms. Roosters started crowing, dogs began barking, and cows huddled together for safety.

Goodyear blimps have been flying the skies since 1925. Over the years, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company has built over 300 of these magnificent, helium filled airships. Goodyear now operates only three blimps in the United States including the Spirit of Goodyear, based in Akron, Ohio, the Spirit of America, based in Carson, California, and the Spirit of Innovation, based in Pompano Beach, Florida.
