September 18, 2008 - Dennis Bradley brings Heavy Metal to Blairsville Bluegrass Festival

Dennis Bradley's Heavy Metals Band sure gets people's attention. As one fan of the artwork says, "People growing up in the sixties might even feel like singing, 'He ain't heavy, he's my muffler' (referring to the song by the Hollies)." The three piece "metal" band is currently on display outside Art & Soul Artisan Gallery in downtown Blairsville, Georgia and is the creation of master metal sculptor Dennis Bradley. It is a great piece to have out during the Bluegrass Festival when hundreds of musicians are around to enjoy it.

Dennis Bradley, a native of Union County , is well known in the area. As a retired school teacher, he says, "Some of my former students tell me they have projects made in my class thirty years ago. They have kept them all this time!"

Bradley lives on his family farm in the Gumlog Area of Union County and says, "I'm at least the 5th generation. At one time, during the Civil War, there were more than 500 acres but it has been split up over the years." At home on the farm, Dennis Bradley enjoys creating metal art, knives, jewelry, scrimshaw, doing some gardening and some home-canning. He adds, "Now that I am retired, I have time to pursue my other interests."

Bradley is also an avid motorcyclist and is organizer of the annual North Georgia Motorcycle Show. He says, "The show is coming up on Saturday, October 25th at North Georgia Technical College in Blairsville, Georgia. It's a fun day with great bikes, awards, door prizes, and entertainment."

Art & Soul Artisan Gallery owner Sharry Morrison says, "I think Dennis Bradley's art is something else! I hope this is just the beginning of great art pieces to appear on the Square and around town. Wouldn't it be great to see permanent installations of art that will announce to visitors that Blairsville loves and supports the arts?"

Additional works by Dennis Bradley are showcased inside the Art & Soul Gallery and include smaller metal sculptures, handcrafted knives, scrimshaw pendants, and twisted metal bracelets that are perfect for the guys.
