Clyde Woolsey is cheered on by neighbors

April 21, 2010 - Clyde Woolsey heads from Blairsville, Georgia to Nags Head, N.C. on bicycle

Clyde Woolsey, age 75, is headed out from Blairsville to Nags Head, North Carolina on a bicycle. His route will take him approximately 1600 miles roundtrip and is expected to last from three to four weeks.

Woolsey plans on camping most nights but will occasionally check into a motel. He carries a cell phone, water and other gear on his bike. Woolsey is an experienced cyclist. He has traveled the entire Natchez Trace from Nashville , Tennessee to Natchez , Mississippi . Other trips include a ride to Myrtle Beach , Charleston , and Skyline Drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway .

Clyde Woolsey has been a bicycle rider since he was a young boy although he didn't take it seriously until about thirty five years ago. After retirement, Woolsey started devoting even more time to the sport. He currently averages from 3000 to 5000 mile a year. Mr. Woolsey lives off of Lake Cove Lodge Road in Union County where he has many friends and admirers.
