September 2010 - 60 people at Bunker Hill School Reunion in Blairsville, Georgia

The 4th annual Bunker Hill School Reunion was recently held at Meeks Park Pavilion #3 in Blairsville, Georgia. Former Bunker Hill School students, families, and friends enjoyed good food, fellowship, and interesting conversation.

A highlight of the day was a delicious covered dish dinner. Fried chicken, BBQ, casseroles, side dishes, fresh fruit, and numerous desserts made quite a spread. There was also a memory board in honor of all the classmates who have passed away.

Over 60 people enjoyed the school reunion. Many of the Bunker Hill School classmates brought their family members to spend the day at Meeks Park in Union County. The weather couldn't have been better and the event was fun for all that attended.

The Bunker Hill School Reunion is an opportunity for all of the ladies and gentlemen who attended the school to get together as a group. Bunker Hill School was held at Bunker Hill Church in Union County. The school closed its doors in the 50's when students were moved to Young Cane School. The Bunker Hill Church building still stands in its original location and looks pretty much the same as it did all those years ago.

Many thanks go to the Bunker Hill School Reunion Planning Committee Imogene Brooks Hughes, Exola Rich Gates, Leola Rich Lyons, Paul Warren, Herbert Parham, and all the other people that made the day a success.

This year a sound system was set up so that everyone could hear what was said. Announcer Herbert Parham did a great job with announcements and news. A new group photo was taken to hang beside the old photo taken sometime in the 1940's.

A highlight of the day was the reading of Frances Burns Davenport's essay about her memories of the "good old days" at Bunker Hill and living in Union County . Frances says, "I wrote it in about twenty minutes and my daughter (Amy Turner) typed it up on her computer. I could have gone on and on but it would be too long."
