November 11, 2009 - The Book Nook is a Blairsville tradition for 25 years
Blairsville's own The Book Nook is one of Georgia 's oldest continuously operating independent booksellers, and is one of the hidden gems of North Georgia. Family owned by Jeff Hansen, his wife Dorothy, and their children, Chris and Jamie, the bookstore offers over 8,000 new titles on a broad range of topics.
Though other, similarly named bookstores have moved into nearby North Georgia communities, Blairsville's own independently owned and family operated The Book Nook has been proudly serving people of Blairsville for 25 years, and it has no intention of moving. "We are committed to this community," says Jeff Hansen, "and we hope to serve the wonderful people of Union and surrounding counties for many years to come."
The Book Nook has regular author signings from acclaimed local and regional authors. On Friday November 20, from 11 AM to 1 PM , Anita Brock Bryant will be signing her new book "The ABCs of Advent." This active devotional book is a special way for children to prepare for Christmas. At a recent signing of "The Little Book of Secret Family Recipes," a portion of proceeds went to benefit local women through the SAFE organization.
Along with carrying the very newest hardcover and paperback titles hot off the presses, Jeff also takes pride in researching and selecting titles for the shelves that are not just 'run-of-the-mill' books available at big-box stores. Interested in Appalachian history? Want to identify that unusual bird in your back yard? Want a comforting book for a friend in need? Or a Christian inspiration? You can find them all next to the fiction, mysteries, biographies, histories, and more that line the spacious shelves of the large store. Settle in on a comfortable couch or overstuffed chair to read a few pages of the latest thriller or romance, and listen to young children giggle as they read about the latest exploits of their favorite hero in the impressive children's section.
The Book Nook places special orders daily for customers-free of charge. Special orders received before noon will usually arrive in 2 business days. For a small fee, books can be gift-wrapped and sent to the home of a friend or family member. Recently, the store has greatly expanded its ability to source hard to find books. The staff is dedicated to tracking down the status of any requested title.
In addition to books, The Book Nook offers a wide array of quality gifts. Greeting cards, toys, and Baggalini handbags mingle with puzzles for kids and adults, creative pursuits, journals and calendars. The Book Nook also offers herbal neck wraps, decorative pillows, and antiqued glass jewelry boxes and picture frames.
