June 27, 2008 - Art & Soul Gallery represents over 40 local artists

The Art & Soul Artisan Gallery, a new art center located on the square in Blairsville, Georgia, currently represents over 40 local artists and craftsmen. The gallery is filled with fine art, pottery, jewelry, stained glass, textiles, home accessories, and other handcrafted collectables and gifts.

Owner Sharry Morrison says, "I want to give local artists a chance to offer their arts and crafts right here in town. We have many very talented artists in this area. Buying 'handmade' brings back the personal touch we've lost in today's society. I encourage my artists to keep prices affordable. Art should be for everyone, not just the wealthy."

During July, Art & Soul Artisan Gallery is starting a teaching studio and learning center. Classes are as follows: Beginning and Intermediate Pastels - 5 sessions with artist Carol Molder, Children's Introduction to Tempera and Acrylic Painting - 3 sessions with artist/instructor Marlon Heard, Open Studio - 3 sessions with Marlon Heard, Introduction to Jewelry Making - 1 free session with jewelry artist Carol Tanner, One Stroke Painting - 6 sessions with decorative painter Joan Roach, Woven Bracelets - 5 sessions with jewelry artist Rini DeFalco, Beginning Photography - 5 sessions with artist/photographer William Hoyt, and Glass Fusing - 5 sessions with designer and jewelry artist Jackie DeBell. Please call or stop by the gallery for class schedules and fees.

Sharry is dedicated to creating an interest for the arts in our area and hopes to spearhead a new Union County Arts Council. An accomplished artist, she has always worked in the field of applied arts. Sharry designed and made costumes for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey's Circus for many years. Sharry is also a retired landscaping and design contractor where she designed everything from water gardens to a twelve mile bike path on Florida 's west coast to developing plans for a special cemetery plot. She has been in Blairsville since 1974 and currently lives in an 1840's Amish barn she dismantled in Pennsylvania and brought to Union County as primary residence and art studio.
