December 9, 2007 - Alvin Medford hosts party at new dream house in Blairsville, Georgia
Alvin and Ruth Medford recently hosted a party and open house in celebration of the completion of their new dream house on Lake Nottely. Over 150 people visited the Medford 's during the afternoon. Everyone enjoyed great company, delicious food, and live entertainment by the Randall Collins Band.
Medford says, "Our family is originally from Union County . We are kin to the Davenports , Burns, Poteetes, and Whitmores and always attend the family reunions and homecomings. In 2005, I was attacked on Barrett Parkway in Marietta and was almost killed. That's when we decided it was time to change our way of life. We owned a lot on Lake Nottely that we bought in 1989 and decided to start the house. This is definitely my dream home and I plan on staying here until I die."
The 9,000 square foot log home was built by Blake Foster of Georgia Mountain Timber Log Homes and logs were supplied by Mathew Sterchi of Stone Mill Log Homes. The home features Canadian Western Hemlock and Southern Yellow Pine hand-hewed logs, custom rock work, five fireplaces, extra large 20 x 20 bedrooms, and an elevator.
Medford adds, "We call it our cabin. Just like John Payne built his family a log cabin in 1861, I built my family a log cabin in 2007. We had the Randall Collins Band christen the house by playing Dixie . It was something I'll always remember."
